Amazing Hail Glaciers from New Mexico!!!

What you are looking at in the image above is one of the wildest weather phenomena that I have ever seen. They are called hail glaciers and where and how they form are pretty incredible!

During the late summer months in the Desert Southwest, that part of the country gets its annual monsoon. In 2004 however, it was a much stronger and wetter monsoon than normal. Most of the area received over 150% of its annual rain in the summer months. One day in August that year a very small (only 5 square miles) thunderstorm fired up and sat in the same spot near a town called Clayton for hours. At first it dumped 12 inches of hail, yes hail!! Then it dumped 5 inches of rain!! The massive flood that followed with filled with millions of tons of hail that was being carried off with the rain. All the hail and rain went through a culvert near Sedan, but it couldn't handle all the hail..... The hail then piled up for hundreds of yards behind the culvert and got deep, very deep!!?

The next day when the sun came up there were MASSIVE hail glaciers, yes these were piles and piles of hail that was left behind in the culvert area. Some of these glaciers were hundreds of feet long and up to 20 feet tall!! It is a freak occurrence that happens only once in a while in certain locations!
